[MP3] Lid EMBA – Zakula

Atlanta’s Lid EMBA (aka Sean Moore) knows how to take a song into unexpected places.  “Zakula” opens with grinding synth sounds that seem to be setting the stage for a crawl through familiar experimental basements, but Moore has other plans.  He successfully layers that initial abrasiveness with driving live percussion and synth lines that sound like they were ripped straight from a vintage Tangerine Dream soundtrack.  The drums give it a noticeably human touch, and they take the second half of the song close to dance music territory…or maybe just Fuck Buttons territory.  It’s experimental music with a sense of fun.

“Zakula” is from the forthcoming album Terminal Muse: Blue, which will be released by Stickfigure Recordings on July 26th.  Download or stream it below, and check out another track from the album here.
